Photographer Geoff Fricker, my coauthor on the forthcoming Sacrament: Homage to a River, is all about light. Last week I had the pleasure of visiting his photo show at Turtle Bay, Redding, California (what a museum! not to be missed). The lightness of being in Geoff’s presence starts with seeing his smile–it conveys his genuine pleasure in meeting people and expresses the joy he obviously feels in sharing his work.

Here’s Geoff standing beside the opening display at Sacrament, the name borrowed from the book for his exhibit. Beside his large-format prints are blocks of text from the book, selected and printed by Geoff himself.

This is a man who knows and loves the big-hearted river flowing south in the Great Valley!
